Weight Loss And Self-Confidence

Do you know how to drive a car?

If you do, I've got a few questions for you...

  1. When you were first learning to drive a car, how did you feel about your ability to drive?
  2. Right after you got your driver's license for the first time, how did you feel about your ability to drive?
  3. Today, however many years later, how do you feel about your driving?

You may be wondering where I'm going with this. And I'll tell you.

There's a big difference between confidence and self-confidence. And I can describe that difference best using the driving analogy.

Confidence is a feeling we generate inside of us based on our thoughts about our past. We feel confident NOW in our ability to drive a car because we've learned and practiced it for many years. I'm confident because I have evidence that I can drive a car well.

Self-confidence is a feeling we generate inside of us based on our thoughts that we can do and learn anything. We felt self-confident when we first learned how to drive a car. We didn't have evidence from our past that we'd be able to do it but we believed we could learn and figure it out.

So, what does this have to do with weight loss?

Well, do you know how to lose weight? Do you think you can lose weight and keep it off forever?

If you've never lost weight and been able to keep it off forever, you probably don't feel confident you can do it. There's no evidence from your past that you've been able to lose weight.

But you still want to lose weight. So, you must use self-confidence to do it. If you've never lost weight and been able to keep it off forever, you must believe that you can learn and figure it out. You must generate the feeling of self-confidence inside of you.

How do you do that?

Simple. You focus on your thoughts.

What thoughts can you think (and really believe) that will generate the feeling of self-confidence in your ability to lose weight and keep it off forever?

Here's a few possibilities:

  • I can do this.
  • I will lose weight and keep it off forever.
  • I am learning how to do this.
  • I will make this happen.

I want to encourage you to sit down and make a list of thoughts you believe now that make you feel self-confident about losing weight.

I know you can lose weight and keep it off forever.

I know I can lose weight and keep it off forever.

I know anyone can lose weight and keep it off forever.

What do you believe?

The Wrap-Up

There's a big difference between confidence and self-confidence.

Confidence is a feeling we generate inside of us based on our thoughts about our past. We have evidence in our past that we can do something.

Self-confidence is a feeling we generate inside of us based on our thoughts that we can do and learn anything. We don't have evidence from our past that we can do something but we believe we can learn and figure anything out.

Go get you some more self-confidence that will eventually turn into confidence.

You got this.
