Welcome to the Weight Loss Before and After Pregnancy Podcast. The place you’ll get simple strategies you can apply to your life today to start losing weight. Strategies that’ll help you reach your goal, move on with your life, and focus on the things that matter most to you. I’m your host, Certified Life and Weight Coach, Andrea Scalici. Let’s get started.
Hey everybody. Welcome to episode 23.
When I first started this podcast, it felt weird to sit in my office by myself and talk into a microphone. But now it feels natural. And I feel connected to every person who listens. I feel like you’re all supporting me, you’re all inspiring me, just as much as this podcast is hopefully supporting and inspiring you.
So, I just wanted to say thank you for listening. And thank you for being here. I hope you continue listening and I hope you’re using everything I talk to you about to create the life you want. Because I truly believe you can have it.
As I sit here today, I’m in my eighth month of pregnancy. So, I’m feeling a bit emotional, in a good way. My baby will be here soon and I’m sort of feeling a bit reflective today. I’m remembering the first half of my pregnancy and how tough it was with feeling sick and nauseous. And right now I’m in the middle of the second half of my pregnancy. Which has been pretty normal, just feeling tired and bloated. But otherwise, it’s been a pretty normal pregnancy and I’m grateful for that.
And I recently started weekly appointments with a chiropractor. She specializes in helping pregnant women relieve physical pain and prepare the body for labor. Apparently, this can cut down on labor time, and I’d do anything for that.
I have to tell you how awesome my experience has been seeing a chiropractor pregnant. I wish I knew about this during my first pregnancy four years ago. But I didn’t and I’m really happy I know about it now, in my second pregnancy, because it’s really helping. I see her once a week and my body feels so good afterwards, so ready for when this baby comes out. Which is hopefully soon.
So, if you’re pregnant now, or you will be in the future, I definitely recommend you ask your doctor or midwife about making an appointment with a chiropractor who specializes in helping pregnant women. It might help you as much as it has helped me to feel better during my pregnancy and prepare my body for labor. And possibly even cut down on labor when it’s time.
Now, although I’m feeling physically great, I still have to work on the emotional side of things every day. I self-coach everyday. And I get coached by a professional. And I’m feeling really aligned physically and emotionally right now. I actually had a session yesterday, where I was the client, I was getting coached, and I balled my eyes out the entire time. And wow, did that feel good to get out. All that emotion, all that energy, came pouring out of me. And today I woke up feeling so much better. Kind of weightless.
When you’re pregnant, I hope you get the coaching support you need to get your emotion out too. We’re all just human beings with human emotions. And keeping them bottled up inside is not worth it. We have to let it out. Especially when we’re pregnant and after the baby is born.
So, anyways, enough about me. I’m here with you today to talk about what motivation really looks like when we’re working towards our weight loss goals.
A few episodes back I talked to you about weight loss motivation and I introduced you to the idea of true motivation versus fake motivation. If you haven’t heard that episode, I definitely recommend you check it out.
And today I want to revisit the idea of true versus fake motivation because I think sometimes people get confused by what it really looks like to lose weight. They think they need more motivation to get themselves there. But most of the time they don’t.
When you feel true motivation, it feels absolutely amazing inside your body. You feel like you can do anything. Your emotion, the vibration of motivation inside your body is high. And when you feel like that, it’s easy to stick to your plan and lose weight. Right?
But, as you know, this feeling doesn’t last forever. It can’t. We are human beings and we’re not meant to feel one emotion all the time. We’re meant to feel a wide range of different emotions.
So, when we’re not feeling true motivation, it’s harder to stick to our plan and lose weight. And we think we need to get more motivation to fix it.
Which leads us to try to manufacture it. But what usually ends up happening is we create what I call fake motivation. And this fake motivation doesn’t feel natural or real. It feels like we’re lying to ourselves about how we really feel.
It’s like we really feel tired or frustrated or annoyed or sad or anxiety and those are true emotions for us in that moment. But we try to push them aside to manufacture motivation. And it just doesn’t work because it’s fake.
Now, many of us have been there before. We know what it feels like to feel true motivation and we know what it feels like to feel fake motivation. We’re smart. We know the difference.
And what I want to show you is that you don’t have to create that fake motivation at all in order to lose weight and reach your weight loss goals.
What I want to show you is this. If you feel true motivation, it’s easy for you to use that energy to stick to your plan. And when you’re not feeling that huge rush of true motivation, you just need to be willing to process the emotion you’re really feeling and stick to your plan.
Hear me on this.
You need to be willing to keep going even when you make a mistake and eat off plan or drive through a drive thru.
You need to be willing to keep going even when you don’t want to and you’d rather be in the kitchen eating cookies.
You need to be willing to keep going even when your plan isn’t perfect, you aren’t perfect, and things feel messy and scattered.
You need to be willing to keep going even when you’re tired, frustrated, annoyed, sad, or feeling your daily dose of anxiety.
You need to be willing to keep going even when it’s not convenient because you’ve got a million other things going on in your life.
You need to be willing to keep going even when it’s hard, you feel alone, you feel unsupported or unseen, and you feel like you want to give up.
And finally, you need to be willing to keep going even when the Weight Loss Coach you’re working with, if you’re working with one, isn’t available.
Because at the end of the day, even if you have a Weight Loss Coach or the best support in the world, it’s you who has this goal. It’s you who has to do the work to get it. It’s you who has to stick to the plan. And I have no doubt you can do this. You just need to be willing.
I’m a mom of one, soon-to-be two boys. I’m a wife. I’m a Weight Loss Coach. And I’m an entrepreneur. I’ve got a full, purpose-filled life. But I’m human just like you. I don’t feel true motivation all the time either.
Sometimes I don’t want to create a podcast episode or cook dinner or clean the house. Sometimes I don’t want to do anything. And that’s totally fine. I process whatever emotion I have. But I don’t let it stop me from creating the life of my dreams. And that’s because I’m willing to feel all the feels and stick to my plans anyways.
This is what motivation really looks like. It’s not easy or clean or straightforward. It’s hard and dirty and sometimes feels complicated. But we can work through it and get what we want anyways.
So, ask yourself this. What are you willing to feel to reach your weight loss goals? That’s the big, important question.
Let me ask you again. What are you willing to feel to reach your weight loss goals?
If you’re willing to stick to your plan and feel any emotion that comes up, the good, the bad, and the annoying ones, you will reach your goal. I have no doubt.
And if you want a little extra support and motivation along the way, I’m here for you. Reach out to me anytime. I can help you.
