This week, I am really excited to share with you that I have started on my own weight loss journey postpartum.

So as you know, I had a baby a few weeks ago. I have 50 pounds to lose, and I am currently in the process of taking myself through my own weight loss program, The 6 Stages Weight Loss Program. And I decided to document my entire journey and share it with anybody who's interested.

And on today's podcast, I just want to talk to you a little bit about week number one. So I just finished week number one myself. All of the videos are there for anyone to see who is interested. You just have to go register for free to see them. And week number one was really interesting to me.

As you know, I am a Weight Coach. I put together this program, but even me like going into week number one, my brain was like, "Ok, we need to hurry up. We need to lose weight now. We need to do this really fast. We need to look good. We need to get a flat belly. We need to see change immediately."

My brain was feeding me all of these thoughts just like most people deal with, and I had to remind myself and coach myself through it that this program is not about quick fix, super fast weight loss that we can't sustain in the long-term. That's not what this is about.

This program truly helps people get to the core of what's happening for them and solve the problem at the deepest level so that they can sustain weight loss long-term.

So I had to remind myself that I'm not looking for a quick fix. I don't need to go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning and see myself immediately - the 50 pounds gone. It's not going to work that way.

So I dealt with that a lot in week number one. And what I did was I did all of the work for week one and I really learned... I took the time to learn why I'm overeating in the first place. Like what's happening at a basic level with hormones inside my body that are causing me to want to eat more than I really need to. And what's happening with over-desire or the dopamine hit in my brain or the reward cycle in my brain or me just genuinely wanting to eat more. It could be me wanting to avoid certain emotions.

All of these things are basic things that we must learn at the beginning of weight loss because I really believe that once we learn the why, like why we're overeating in the first place, it helps us solve the problem.

We could start with the food plan, we could start with an exercise program the way that a lot of programs do and just jump right in there and get going, but if we don't really understand why it's hard for us to keep going or why we can't really sustain that, like if we don't really understand the core reasons why we're having trouble, then we're really not going to get that far.

So in my program, we start with the why, which I did last week. It was very helpful.

I also created my own personal why. Like why do I want to embark on this journey and lose these 50 pounds? And most of my reasons ended up being for my family.

When I was younger, my reasons were way different. They might have been to look sexy or to look hot or to fit in size two or four or whatever. They might've been more vanity reasons and that's okay. There's nothing wrong with those reasons. I still do have some of those reasons. Of course I want to look sexy and feel good in my skin, but it's not about that so much anymore.

My reasons why now at 38 years old are more wellness and health related and long term and like playing with my children and being able to chase my son outside and not be exhausted, being able to pick up my newborn son and hold him for a long time without really just getting exhausted.

And it's all about that for me now. It's all about being able to go on trips with my family and be energized and want to do things and get out walking and biking and showing my sons what life could be like bringing them up into this world with really good habits around food, with strong, balanced mental and emotional energy and just teaching them all of the things that I wish that I had known as a child.

So, yeah, week number one has been stressful a little bit here and there. I'm not going to lie. Getting started with any new program can be hard. It can be tough because our brains don't like change. They want us to stay exactly the same. And there's nothing wrong with that. That's the brain trying to protect us to stay exactly the same because what's happening now is working, right? We're alive. The brain is all about survival. And so change is hard.

In the first one week of my program, we don't change what we eat, we don't change how we exercise. We don't change anything. Like literally everything stays the same. And that frustrates a lot of people who come into my program because it's such a stark difference from most programs out there.

Usually you come into a program and you immediately have to change the way you eat or you immediately have to start exercising or whatever the case. And that is not what my program does.

So a lot of people come into my program and they're confused - why am I not changing anything in week number one? They're a little frustrated. They want to get started. They're eager. I totally get it. I felt all of those things in this week number one, but it's not the healthiest thing for us to do.

I believe learning the why is very important for long-term sustainable change. So that's exactly what I did in week number one.
